I’ll post these deals occasionally as I notice them.

The big one is  Robert Alter’s 3-volume translation and literary commentary of the Old Testament, already marked down to $75 , and then there’s a $25 coupon, bringing it down to about $50 (from $125). I love these, and my wife (Sunday school teacher) and sister (seminary teacher) have also really enjoyed Alter’s insights. This is an Amazon Affiliate link, and I receive a small percentage of purchases made through that link.

Over at Logos, they have their regular monthly and weekly sales, plus a free-book-of-the-month. (The Logos app/engine is free for PC, OSX, iOS, and Android. You buy books, packages, and increased functionality. One great thing is, all scripture references are pop-up links.)

Some Logos highlights right now

  • On this sale page
    • Misreading Scripture Through Western Eyes: Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understand the Bible, $1.99. I often recommend this book and its follow-ups. At this price, it’s a steal.
    • NT. (Tom) Wright, Luke for Everyone 0.99. This is part of his translation and light commentary series.
    • Walton, Lost World of the Torah: Law as Covenant and Wisdom in Ancient Context, $2.99
      • I haven’t read this one, but I like Walton and this series generally. I reviewed his Lost World of Genesis 1 favorably  here.
    • Wright, Jesus and the Victor of God, vol 2 of Wright’s scholarly series on Jesus, $6.99
    • Dictionary of Paul  and His Letters, $9.99. Part of the 8-volume very accessible IVP Dictionaries, highly recommended, and a steal at this price.
  • On this page,
    • When God Spoke Greek: The Septuagint and the Making of the Christian Bible  for $11.19 is an ok sale.
    • I’m quite interested in Brueggemann’s Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now for $9.
    • The NIVAC NT series (20 volumes for $250) is a good accessible Evangelical series. It tries to go for original context and also modern application without overwhelming the non-specialist. YMMV, of course.
