A quick note: some resources I’ve suggested in the past are on sale in Logos format, which I use extensively.1Logos itself is free, though you can buy more advanced functionality If you’ve watched my posts about getting at Greek and Hebrew without knowing the languages (which includes my warnings against using Strong’s Concordance) here and here, well, some of those recommended resources are on sale for a few days, likely ending at the end of September.
- Mounce’s Complete Expository Dictionary This is what people expect Strong’s to be. I have some minor quibbles with it, and the coding for some of the Hebrew stuff is off (and being fixed) but for $7…
- If you have more money and interest, the multi-volume combination of New International Dictionary of Theology and Exegesis for both the Old and New Testaments is also on sale. These are Protestant, and a little more technical, but remain accessible and offer a lot more depth than Mounce.
I continue recommending the NRSV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible (Amazon link). The notes therein are derived from a multi-volume series also on sale at Logos, the Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary (or ZIBBC). Individual volumes or OT and NT sets look like they’re also available, but either not on sale or with smaller discount. And again, if you don’t have the cash for a set, you can also just buy the Study Bible notes in Logos, and then link them to whatever translations you’d like.
As always, you can help me pay my tuition here via GoFundMe. *I am an Amazon Affiliate, and may receive a small percentage of purchases made through Amazon links on this page. You can also follow Benjamin the Scribe on Facebook.
