It’s been quite a semester.
I continued working on my dissertation, and finished my Fellowship at the U. As part of that, I gave two public talks:
- ‘But I Have Better Grounds’: Latter-day Saints and Creationist Claims to Scientific Authority
and
2) Henry Eyring Sr vs Melvin Cook: Chemistry, Creationism, and Competition to Claim the Authority of ‘Science’ at the University of Utah
I also did two new videos with Saints Unscripted, #1 and #2. #1 got a lot of attention very quickly. These are more popular, reduced versions of things I’ve written about at length; videos reach a different audience.
These are all listed on the Media page, and I’ve got some notes I intend to post.
While the work does not end, the travels begin. I spoke to a small group in Kenya on Expertise and Prophethood, Scripture and History: the Past and Near-Future of the Church. (Not recorded) In essence, I think since about 1992, we’ve entered into a period of maturity and expertise, in which the Church collectively has the willingness, stability, and capability to examine our the basis of our own traditions and adjust accordingly. (C.f. the Gospel Topics Essays.)
I’m scheduled to give a fireside in Dundee, Scotland on Sunday June 4 at 6 pm, “Reading Scripture as Disciple and Scholar.”
Our other destinations include Istanbul, Berlin, London, and Paris, and I’m happy to speak there as well, if there is local interest. Drop me a note.
We’ll return to Utah for a few weeks in July for some family time and some medical care.

Enjoy Turkey, and have yourself at least one Adana kebab.
