Ahora en español! And some other updates

A few quick updates of note:

First, MasFe has begun to translate a number of my posts into Spanish. As of now, there are seven eight available under my author page. Please share these and the video below!

Second, I was recently interviewed on a Spanish-language podcast La Hoja del Olivo. I don’t speak Spanish nearly well enough to discuss my area of expertise (nor to pick up on any translational subtleties or miscommunications in translated posts), so I spoke in English. One version has Spanish subtitles, and another will simply dub me. I have added this to the Audio/Video/podcasts page.

Third, my talk from the 2019 FAirMormon Conference is now available in video format, A Paradoxical Preservation of Faith: LDS Creation Accounts and the Composite Nature of Revelation. You can read the text here (also has embedded video at the top.)  I define fundamentalist assumptions and approaches to scripture, and how things like the creation accounts undermine those assumptions. In particular, I draw on differences and changes between Genesis, Moses, and Abraham to understand the composite nature of revelation, that it has both divine and human components. I’ve also added this to the Audio/Video/podcasts page.

Fourth, I anticipate doing another Saints Unscripted video next month, this time on dinosaurs and LDS history, based on my 2022 MHA presentation “Dinosaurs on the Utah Landscape: Geology, Religion, and Public Education.” The others— some have been quite popular— are listed on the Audio/Video/podcasts page.

And last, I think I’m coming to the end of my dissertation. I’m on the verge of sending in my (final?) chapter, and if all goes well, defending in the next two months. Fingers crossed. There’s a lot I’ve cut. In anticipatory celebration, I’ve signed up for a half-marathon, have some Utah travel planned, etc. But trying not to count my chickens before they’re hatched.
