A few quick announcements:

First, I will speak at this year’s FAIR Conference in Provo. It’s a three-day conference, I’m scheduled for Friday August 5th.

My title is, First Things, Faith, and Reading Scripture Literally; Why It Matters. Readers of the blog might be aware of a number of thing I’ve written on reading “literally” and what that means, as well as the assumptions we bring to scripture. (See here, here, and here, for example); however, I’ll also be adding some historical depth as to why Latter-day Saints today approach scriptural understanding the way they do.

Second, it seems likely that starting in 2023, around the time I defend my dissertation,1fingers crossed! I will start leading some formal tours to the Holy Land. I’ve really wanted to get back there for a while, so stay tuned. I’ll post details once that’s formalized.

Last, Logos has some great sales running this month. Not a lot of time to provide detail, but at this link, I recommend The Carta Bible Reference Collection (or individual books in that collection). Great historical maps, diagrams, and non-biblical contexts.

At this link, a lot of commentaries are on deep discount. I think LDS might appreciation the NIV Application Commentary volumes, the JPS Torah Commentary volumes, the New International Commentary, the Anchor Yale Bible commentary volumes, and some others. ALL commentary series are uneven because each volume has a different author, and different series have different theological commitments, approaches, depth/technicality, and target audiences. It’s good to consult a range.
